Colleague Caffeine!

One of the great beauties of working with other musicians is their profound ability to snugly cocoon you so welcomingly with their combined creative energies! Who needs coffee when you have such energizing colleagues?!
Summer was the recharging season, but now I’m back! And I’m so incredibly fortunate to be surrounded by musicians who so greatly inspire me. Most incredibly, I have an amazing S.O. with a work ethic to put the Energizer Bunny to shame. Video game composer, remixer, transcriber, acoustic composer, performer - this wonderful man does it all. Just seeing the sheer volume of work he generates spurs my creative energies to new heights.
I have a composition professor who is forever pushing me to the next plateau of success, who will be helping me in the exciting process of applying to doctoral programs. School is back in session, kids!
And SUCH performers...I’m so blessed to work with an amazing bass trombonist who constantly shows me all the beauties of a passionate musician. Composer nirvana is handing your sheet music to the performer who asks questions, forms conclusions, and plays with conviction. This bass trombonist does it all. Everyday. His gifts are endless.
Finally, a rare unknown-composer joy - we are always sending works off to performance calls, and are constantly rejected. An unfortunate truth of a creator’s life. BUT this Friday, one of the most talented young flutists I know will perform one of my works that was accepted. Of course, of course, no creative creature should judge her work based on the acceptance of others, but it’s always nice when it happens nonetheless!
Surround yourself with colleagues and friends who inspire you! Pass around that creative energy!
